How To Get Over The Fear Of Investing In Your Business & Get Your Money's Worth
When it comes to investing your time and money into your business, no matter how much the amount it may be, there will always be some sort of hesitation that stops you from completing that order. Trust me, I didn't make any major investments into my business until about a year ago when I hired my own business coach. I still remember how my heart felt dropping to the pit of my stomach when I pressed "complete payment".
I know exactly how much you've probably gone back and forth in your head about which investments to make in your business. If you're like me, you've probably had that $20 e-book sitting in your shopping cart for days because you know that money could easily fill up your gas tank. Or that 6-week e-course that costs just as much as three months worth of electricity. Not to mention that business coach that costs damn near the amount you pay in rent each month.
I get it, you're afraid that if you make these investments they either....
A. Wont be worth your money or time
B. You wont see any positive results or ROI (RETURN ON INVESTMENT)
Putting your money on the line is scary sh*t but guess what? It takes money to make money, my friend. I can honestly say that everything I have invested in, I have thankfully earned back double and in some cases triple the amount I originally invested. The way I look at is, you can either waste a ton of money and time experimenting with trial and error or you can invest in a resource that will really help you and get the knowledge from someone who has been there and that can hopefully prevent you from making some of the mistakes they've made.
Not to mention, any investment you make that goes towards making yourself or your business better will always be worth it.
So how exactly do you get over the fear of taking the leap? Simply ask yourself these questions.
WILL THIS INVESTMENT PUT ME IN A BAD PLACE FINANCIALLY?
Before I invest in anything I look at my finances to see what exactly I have in my budget to work with after bills are paid and other living expenses are taken care of. Please, do not put yourself in a position where you are unable to pay your bills or feed your family. But if you can go without a new pair of shoes or fancy dinner for a month, use that money to make that investment that will help better your business. No new shoes now could possibly mean a lot of new shoes later.
WHERE WILL I BE IF I DON'T MAKE THIS INVESTMENT?
Will you still be confused? Still struggling to take your business to the next level? Still not making the income you want? Still stalking Google trying to find the answers you need? Investing in your business means eliminating some of those negatives and putting yourself at ease knowing that you don't have to stress over finding the answers.
DO I TRUST THAT THE PERSON I AM INVESTING WILL BE ABLE TO HELP ME GET TO WHERE I WANT TO BE?
Putting your money into a course or a coach means you trust that business owner enough to not only deliver what was promised but to help you take your business to the next level. It's almost like dating. You give your all to someone you trust because you know that there will be a positive outcome. Also before investing in someone, I would make sure that that person has been through what you are currently going through. For example, if you're struggling to market your business then the person you'll want to invest in should have once struggled with it too. You want to be able to relate with them on some level. Another thing I highly suggest as well is checking their testimonials. What are other people saying about this person or the product you want to invest in? This is another great way to make sure you wont be wasting your money.
Now that we've tackled the fear, let's talk about how to get the most out of your investment. If the product you're buying provides the useful information and help that you need, then ultimately it is up to YOU to make sure you're getting the most out of your money. Nothing hurts my feelings more than to see someone literally waste their money on a course, coach, e-book or workshop that they're not taking full advantage of.
Here are a few tips to ensure you're doing your part and really getting your money's worth.
BE PREPARED TO IMPLEMENT WHAT YOU'VE LEARNED
It's one thing to take notes, complete the worksheets and watch the videos but the real magic happens when you actually put what you've learned to use. No matter how much you spend on a course or how many coaches you hire, you'll never get anywhere if you don't actually do the work!
BE TRANSPARENT ABOUT WHERE YOU CURRENTLY ARE
Transparency is extremely important, especially if you're working with a coach. The only way someone can help you get to where you need to be is if you are open about where you currently are and what you're struggling with. Hiding what's really going on in your life or business or down playing the real issues will only mask them temporarily. It's better to lay it all out in the open so that you're able to create a clear plan of exactly what needs to be focused on.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS
This is self explanatory but it is your teacher/coaches job to help you. So if there is something that you're not understanding don't be afraid to virtually "raise your hand" and ask. If you don't, you run the risk of being left confused, frustrated and most definitely feeling like you've wasted your money! The last thing you want to do is get to the end of a course or coaching session and be worse off than you were when you first started.
At one point you literally couldn't pay me to invest in my business. I always had the mentality of "I worked my butt off to make this much, why would I just give it away?" But you know what, every single investment I have made has been 100% worth it! Yes, I am a believer! And I truly believe that sometimes it does take spending a little to actually being seeing the growth you desire.
