Tackling Time Management As A Creative Entrepreneur (Plus A Freebie)

I believe the hardest part of transitioning into full-time entrepreneurship or even running a business while working a day job is finding the time to do it all. When your must-do list for your business is just as long as your must-do list for your life, it can often feel like 24 hours just isn't enough.

Finding time & actually being productive during that time has definitely been one of my biggest struggles as a business owner. Some days I feel like I am rushing to complete everything and others I feel like I am totally drowning. While I am not yet a pro at managing my time, I wanted to share a few things I do to at least keep my head above water.

There is also a little freebie at the end of the post to help you plan out your day!

RECOGNIZE YOUR DISTRACTIONS & WHAT MAKES YOU PROCRASTINATE

Nothing will throw you off more than getting distracted by your surroundings or catching the procrastination fever. Take a step back and think about what takes away your attention when you're trying to work. If it is social media, put your phone on the opposite side of the room until you take a break. If it is your child or in my case your dog, work around their nap times or try working in another room where the noise wont distract you.

Procrastination is often caused by overwhelm. If you find yourself taking a nap instead of tackling your to-do list, then look at what exactly you have scheduled. Is it filled with long tasks that probably all need at least 3 hours of your time a piece? Then you need to cut down the list and decrease the overwhelm.

TURN DOWN-TIME INTO PRODUCTIVE TIME

For many of us who say that we don't have enough hours in the day, we often fail to realize how many hours we are actually  not taking advantage of. Think about your day and the times where you're literally doing nothing. Now replace that empty time with something productive. For example you could use your lunch breaks to answer emails and schedule your social media. Or you can use your TV time to draft your next blog post.

Something that I have just began to recently do and absolutely LOVE is listening to podcasts while I am in the car instead of music. I don't always have the time to sit down and read a few of my favorite business books or blogs so I substitute it with informational podcasts! It is still super educational and I am taking advantage of that extra time!

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AUTOMATION TOOLS

I like to personally believe that Buffer was created just for me. Not only has it made my life so much easier when it comes to scheduling social media but it is also FREE! I'm the type who gets extremely distracted by social media so to cut down my social media time during the week, I'll spend some of my Sunday evening scheduling Twitter & Facebook posts. This free's up a lot of time for me to accomplish bigger tasks and like I mentioned before it cuts down the distractions!

WAKE UP EARLIER

I am not a morning person. And as I get older I realize that I probably will never be a happy person before 10am. But although waking up at the crack of dawn literally hurts, I am able to accomplish so much before my day gets hectic! Waking up an hour or two earlier than you normally would to jump onto your to-do list definitely makes it feel like you've just been rewarded with a few more hours in your day. And the earlier you wake up the more time you'll have to spend with your friends and family in the evenings.

Making the most out of our time can be a little difficult for people like us with insane schedules but just keep in mind "People Make Time For What They WANT To Make Time For". I'm a firm believer that if you want it bad enough then you will do whatever is necessary to make it happen!

I'D LOVE TO KNOW, HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME?
