Let me set the scene. I'm sitting in my call center cubicle getting cursed out by some crazy lady who can't afford to pay her medical bills. All of a sudden I feel my heart begin to race and tears swelling up in my eyes. My hands begin to shake and it feels like a 100 pound weight is sitting on my chest. I get off the phone just in time to run to the bathroom and call my mom. This my friends was my first run in with anxiety. (And what also led me to quitting that job to pursue my business full-time)
I've always been one of those people who didn't believe anxiety was real. And if I could be completely honest with you, I figured it was just an excuse people used to get the "good stuff" from the doctor. It wasn't until that moment that I realized exactly how real anxiety is. And it didn't stop there, once I quit my job to do my entrepreneur thing full-time it continued to flair up. When things didn't go the way I wanted them to or when sales weren't as consistent as I'd like, I would have a full on melt down. I knew this journey of being a business owner wasn't something I was willing to give up and I also knew that I didn't wan't to be on medication for the rest of my life, so I turned to a few other alternatives for help.
LEARN TO LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
I know exactly when my anxiety is about to flair up because I get this butterfly feeling in my stomach like something is about to happen. (no not the type of butterfly feeling you get when you're about to see your boo) I know once I get that feeling that its time to step away from work, get some fresh air and regroup.
Learn to say no
Overbooking myself when I know good and well that my plate is already full gets my anxiety going. I had to learn to say no, not because I didn't wan't to do it, not because I couldn't do it but because I value my health and sanity.
Prayer + Positivity
Sometimes you just have to pray through it. When it all starts to come down and I feel my anxiety getting the best of me nothing makes me feel better than a good prayer. If prayer isn't your thing, try compiling a few inspirational quotes or affirmations to recite during the tough times. I promise ya'll it works!
Anxiety is tough to deal with but it doesn't have to stop you from living your life to the fullest. Find a routine that works for you and stick with it!
