We have all experienced those days where its like your mind has just decided to take a little vacation. Those days where its even hard to form a complete sentence let alone write a decent blog post. Yesterday my mind was so blocked that I couldn't even draw a straight line if I wanted to. Those types of days SUCK and we've all been there. They are extremely frustrating for me because my life sort of revolves around being able to do creative things. Over the past few months I have learned that trying to force creativity only produces BS but there are a few things you can do to ease you out of your creative rut. Step out of your comfort zone + try something new. Nothing about being creative is normal and often doing the unexpected is just the push you need to get those creative juices flowing again.
Allow yourself to get lost in your craft + stop thinking so hard. I have to do this often when it comes to writing blog post. It seems like some of my favorite posts are when I just stop thinking about if it makes sense or if others will understand and just write. (btw this post is one of those "just write" posts)
Switch up your work atmosphere. When I can't get a good thought out to save my life I'll go sit in Barnes and Noble for awhile. I don't know what it is about the smell of coffee and being around other people working but I'm always more productive there. Which leads me to my next point.
Hang around other creatives. I think its extremely healthy to be around like minded people who understand your craft. We all need someone who we can can vent to and bounce new ideas off of.
Take a break. Sometimes that creators block we are experiencing is our minds way of telling us its time for us to have a seat and take a break. Its cool to walk away from a project or your laptop for a few hours to do something completely un-work related. Like I said before, forcing creativity on produces BS.
What do you do when you have creators block?
